Cycling Glossary - Word of the Day

half-wheel
Riding so that about half of your front wheel remains ahead of your friend's. Every time he tries to pull up next to you, you inch slightly ahead again. It's a bad habit that often turns friendly rides into fights or races.

Bike Tech 's Daily Cycling Tip

Wheel Wobbles? – When you’re riding regularly, it’s possible for spokes to loosen. So, it’s wise to regularly check the wheels before rides. The sign of a loose spoke is a wheel that wobbles from side to side when you spin it. If your wheel wobbles, go around the wheel wiggling each spoke in your fingers to find ones that feel looser than the others. Find some? You’ll need to snug the loose spokes to remove the wobble. We’re experts at this. If you’d like to try, one way to do it is by plucking the tight spokes on the same side of the rim as the loose spokes and listening to the tone they make. Then gradually tighten the loose spokes until they make the same sound when plucked. This should remove the wobble.
